Field Notes - Making a Perennial Garden
Making a Perennial Garden
Growing an Abundant Perennial Garden Embroidered with Flowers and Foliage
The Garden Curator Field Notes is a new series of digital notebooks to guide your creative garden making. Field Notes draws on my parallel paths as a professional artist, horticulturist and garden designer, to help you see your garden and garden-making anew through an artist’s lens. There’s a lot of gardening info out there, but Field Notes is a little different to the rest; it’s a friendly conversation, and a gathering of thoughtful and artful garden ideas gleaned over my 30+ years of garden making and art practice. Regardless of where you are gardening, the principles shared within Field Notes can guide your garden making.
Field Notes - Making a Perennial Garden, comprises 50 pages filled with information to guide the design and planning of an abundant perennial garden filled with life, colour and texture. It includes information on:
The key things I consider when selecting perennials for a beautiful show and long season of interest.
Ideas for structural planting in a perennial garden and how to use it.
The diversity of plant and flower forms, the roles they play, and those I always aim to include.
The magical ingredients of light and movement and how to harness them.
Perennials for texture and winter interest.
Ornamental grasses and their place in perennial gardens.
A sample perennial garden plan including a drawn design, planting palette, plant placement and plant profiles. The plan reflects my own home perennial gardens and includes plants I grow, and that I know live happily side by side and look great together.
Plentiful full colour illustrations and photos to demonstrate the content.
Ponderings on the beauty of a perennial garden, and what it can bring to your garden story, and much more!
I’ll see you in the garden. Colleen x
