Everyday beneath our feet, complex sequences and synergies play out in a tiny world, collectively creating the essential rhythm and cycle of life.
Essentiae celebrates the extraordinary and curious patterns of plants and insects, both studying and imagining the cycles within them, and the interactions between them.
Through the juxtaposed mediums of paper and steel, artists Colleen Southwell and Peter Worsley explore these relationships and story-tell the tiny realms with which we share this earth. Their works encourage wonderment through both consideration of the scientific, and contemplation of the inexplicable.
Essentiae will run from 14 - 26 May, Gallery One88, 186 - 188 Katoomba Street, Katoomba NSW.
The official opening celebration will be held on Saturday 18th May commencing at 5pm.
Colleen's work, "Little Flannel" was awarded the highly sought after People's Choice Award at the well known 2018 Little Things Art Prize. The piece was selected as one of 100 finalists from nearly 400 entries. The Little Things Art Prize is held annually at the Saint Cloche Gallery in Paddington, Sydney NSW.
Colleen's work was selected to be shown at the highly regarded Artisans in the Gardens Exhibition at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, from 13 to 21 October 2018. Her work was met with great interest. This beautiful exhibition brought together artworks in many mediums from both emerging and established artists across Australia, and has become a much anticipated event on the RBGS calendar.
The "Unfurl" exhibition at the Corner Store Gallery in Orange, NSW, was Colleens inaugural exhibition. Held in collaboration with sculptor Peter Worsley, this unique show was one of contrasts - Colleen's delicate and finely detailed sculptural pieces against Peter's bold work in reclaimed steel. The exhibition was a resounding success, with Colleen's work selling within two days of doors opening and numerous commissions received.
