Original paper sculpture by Colleen Southwell.

Inspired by friends found in the garden, this little paper bird in flight has been crafted from layers of tiny feathers made from French and Japanese papers. She holds a white paper twig in her beak - a peace offering.

Professionally framed in lined raw Australian oak behind museum quality UV and reflection resistant glass. The piece can be hung using the attached wire or d-rings and at 6cm deep will also sit comfortably on a shelf. Frames are cut from one piece of timber for unity, however timber is a natural product and may show slight irregularities in grain and colour. If looking to hang a pair of works, please note colour and wood grain can vary slightly from frame to frame.

About the artist

Colleen Southwell is an Artist and Garden Mentor.

As an artist, her focus is paper sculpture, creating intricate, three-dimensional works inspired by the botanical, entomological worlds. Each element is formed by hand in her small tin studio near Orange, NSW, using finely cut paper, pigment, watercolour, delicate wire and occasional found materials. Mounted with entomology pins, each piece appears to float, with shadow forming part of the work itself. The result is both scientific and poetic, holding depth, atmosphere and a strong sense of presence. Her process is meticulous and measured - requiring patience, precision and a deep respect for detail.
